Boys Leadership Alliance ~Developing Boys Into Men~

The VA Boys Leadership Alliance (BLA) was founded and developed by C. Jackie Jackson, PhD. Answering the community call for structured informal educational programs for boys, Dr. Jackson leverage her community involvement and resources to build the capacity of Girls Inc of the Greater Peninsula and a program for boys. In a partnership for shared programming space and staffing, she coordinated a collaborative partnership between Boys Leadership Alliance and Girls Inc of the Greater Peninsula to meet the community need. Through the collaborative effort, the VA Boys Leadership Alliance (former VA Crusaders Leadership Academy for Boys) opened its doors with 80 boys enrolled in the summer program. Boys Leadership Alliance currently serves over 180 boys and young men daily in after school and summer camp settings in Hampton Roads Virginia (Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Suffolk).

The Boys Leadership Alliance is a gender specific, non-profit after school and summer camp program for boys ages 5-18. The program is an informal education program that utilizes the game of football as a metaphor to teach leadership, entrepreneurship, media and economic literacy as well as life and social skills to young men. Life coaches utilize an evidence-based curriculum to provide homework assistance and tutoring during after school hours Monday-Friday. The innovative curriculum helps boys and young men develop the skills and knowledge needed to confront life’s challenges and lead successful productive lives.

The MISSION of the Boys Leadership Alliance is to empower boys, ages 5-18, to WIN in the game of life. The VISION of the Boys Leadership Alliance is to see disciplined young men meeting life’s challenges through leadership and life skills training. We BELIEVE boys are strong and intelligent. We also BELIEVE in the successful possibilities for all boys. Further, we BELIEVE, boys can achieve by using their minds. There is no challenge too big!
